Pregnancy and Postpartum Massage
Pregnancy
Delighted about being pregnant but feeling the effects on your body? Are you suffering from swollen hands and feet? An aching lower back? Troublesome headaches? Neck and shoulder pain or muscle fatigue? Maybe your emotions are “all over the place” and you are having trouble coping with the stresses of daily life or even having trouble sleeping….
Pre natal massage is a natural, touch therapy treatment aimed at alleviating these and other pregnancy related symptoms. Taking time for you during pregnancy can be uplifting emotionally. The soothing essence of massage allows mums-to-be the chance to unwind and feel serene, healthy, and comforted during a period of added physical and emotional stress.
Expectant mums experience unique physical and emotional changes that occur as a result of increased weight, shifting posture, and adjusting hormone levels. While this is a beautiful period of heightened expectation and joy, mothers-to-be also endure heightened physical discomfort that ranges from muscular tension and headaches to pressure on the knees.
Pre-natal massage is a safe, natural, touch therapy treatment aimed at alleviating these and other pregnancy related symptoms.

How Long Does Pregnancy Massage Last?
This can be taken as a 60 or 90 minute treatment but be assured that your appointment will be unhurried and plenty of time will be given to you to undress/redress and get yourself settled and comfortable.
What can I expect after my Pregnancy Massage?
Taking time for yourself during your pregnancy can be uplifting emotionally. The soothing essence of massage allows pregnant mums to unwind and feel serene, healthy, and comforted during a period of added physical and emotional stress.
In your 1st or 2nd trimester, receiving a 60 minute massage every two weeks to once a month is a great way to keep yourself relaxed, healthy, and comfortable. If you have a high stress lifestyle or muscle issues not related to your pregnancy that need to be addressed in depth, you might choose to schedule longer sessions or take more frequent appointments. In your 3rd trimester, when low back and hip discomfort tend to kick in, you may find that a 60 or 90 minute massage once a week or every two weeks may be what you need to stay comfortable. Some women choose to schedule massage twice a week near their due date, knowing that the more comfortable, rested, and relaxed they are going in to labour, the easier the process will be.
Postpartum Massage
During the postpartum period you may be experiencing soreness, fatigue and aches and pains associated with the sheer effort of giving birth. Soothing massage strokes encourage blood circulation, lymphatic fluid flow, and will ease tired muscles. For example you may find your neck and shoulders get sore when you breastfeed (especially if you spend ages gazing down at your baby). Postpartum massage is wonderful for helping return the body to its pre-pregnancy state and can help speed recovery by promoting relaxation, providing pain relief, and has even been recognized to help improve post-surgical recovery after Caesarean births. Postpartum massage is a positive step towards alleviating “postpartum blues” (post natal depression).
The above therapies are available as a home visit or in my treatment room. Please do feel free to bring your baby with you at a time you suspect he/she will be willing to sleep in a carrier. Or bring your spouse/partner or friend to hold your baby. If your baby wakes, we’ll take a nursing break during your session and then resume your massage.
Please be assured I am qualified in specialised Pregnancy massage.
